The origins of the U-Boat brand can be traced back to Italy in 1942, when the Fontana family workshop was commissioned to manufacture watches for Italian Navy submarine officers. They demanded that the watch be as reliable and readable as possible in the most extreme weather conditions.
Today, the brand’s automatic and quartz watches are made in Tuscany, Italy, using modern and unusual techniques and materials that, in many cases, are unprecedented in watchmaking. For example, U-Boat introduced a patented system to release the watch’s crown, which made it easier to set the date and time. In addition, the brand has applied for a fully immersed oil movement model for all models in the Capsoil Collection.
Capsoil Collection
U-Boat has several collections, and without a doubt one of the brand’s most original and distinctive collections is the Capsoil collection. The watches in this collection have a retro look, but maintain all the current innovations and technologies.
The greatest feature of these pieces is the special oil into which their Swiss electromechanical movements are immersed and flow into the dial. Not only does this oil give the dial a deep three-dimensionality, creating the illusion of no glass, but it also creates a constantly moving bubble to compensate for temperature changes, amplify the visual effect of the hands and facilitate reading the indexes.
Among the innovations that guarantee the reliability of the U-boat Capsoil watch, we can also mention the patented system for assembling the case to the glass, as well as the high-pressure lever system.
One of their latest models is the U-Boat Capsoil Darkmoon watch, inspired by the dark side of the moon. They stand out for their functionality and original and unique aesthetics.
There are different models to choose from, with leather, silicone or Milanese mesh straps, but all have a set of features in common: they are all quartz watches with curved mineral crystals, water-resistant to 5 atm (50 m), and the dials are completely filled A special oil that makes the color of the dial an absolute and intense black. A constantly moving bubble is formed inside the dial to compensate for the temperature changes the watch may experience.
The vast majority of these models have a 44mm diameter, with the exception of two models with 38mm dials. In terms of material, all are 316L stainless steel, and some have subsequent IPB coating.
The other new model in the series is the U-Boat Rainbow. These watches feature a domed iridescent mineral crystal that creates a rainbow effect and accentuates the different colors of the dial. These pieces are for fashion lovers who dress in a casual and colorful way. Like the Dark Moon watch, the rainbow dial is completely immersed in a special oil that creates air bubbles. The U-Boat Rainbow comes with leather or Milanese mesh straps and 44mm and 38mm dials in a variety of dazzling and luminous mother-of-pearl colors. : orange, blue and pink.
