Top golfers and the watches they wear
With the golf season in full swing despite COVID-19, we can take a closer look at the best replica watches review that many professionals wear on their wrists.
While many last year’s golf events were canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, many this year are moving forward. Granted, they’re currently mostly without spectators, but that doesn’t stop golfers from getting the most out of their swings in the game. Like most sports, many golfers are watch brand ambassadors. After all, both golf and watchmaking require incredible precision and patience, as well as exceptional style.
Generally speaking, most golfers who also serve as watch brand ambassadors don’t wear a watch during the game (though a few do), but they do so immediately after the game before claiming an award or going to the clubhouse. Here, we take a closer look at the watches that have made a huge impact on the course and on the wrists of some of the best golfers in the world.
Rolex
Rolex may be the most prolific player in golf. The brand’s involvement in the sport dates back nearly 55 years, to its partnership with Arnold Palmer in 1967. Since then, Rolex has continued to sponsor some of the greatest golf events in the world, including the Presidents Cup. It is the official timekeeper of the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open, and has launched its own golf championship: the European Rolex Series Tour. The brand also works with golf’s professional governing body.
It has many great golfers on its roster, including the “Big Three” — Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. However, the brand also boasts an impressive roster of existing and new players. Tiger Woods is being treated in hospital after a devastating car crash left him with a broken right leg and is a Rolex brand ambassador. He was spotted wearing many different Rolex watches. Likewise, golf superstar Phil Mickelson, who has won more than 50 major tournaments (including three Masters), is the brand ambassador and can be seen wearing a Rolex Oyster, as well as a Rolex Sky-Dweller.
Current champions who are also brand ambassadors include Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama and more. There are also several women on the list, such as Brooke Henderson, Lexie Thompson, Lydia Coe and Anna Nordquist. They all wear different Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches.
Audemars Piguet
Almost rivaling a Rolex spokesperson, Audemars Piguet’s golf list reads like a veritable Who’s Who in the sport. Only about 20 golfers round out the lineup, including Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and Ian Poulter of England. Poulter has been seen wearing many different Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches.
Audemars Piguet has also hosted a series of private tournaments, and at its most recent golf event, nine professional golfers came together with a DJ/producer to capture the sound of golf. In addition to the big names mentioned above, other Audemars Piguet brand ambassadors from the golf world include Adri Arnaus, a Spaniard who turned pro a few years ago in 2017, and Wesley, an American golfer with an average golf skill. Bryan. Britain’s Tyrrell Hatton and South African golfer Brandon Grace, among others. All of these professionals wear some versions of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore. Audemars Piguet isn’t forgetting women either, with New Zealand-based stunt artist Tania Tare on its roster.
Richard Mille
As a brand that has always done things differently, Richard Mille has partnered with athletes in many different disciplines, from golf to tennis, racing, sprinting and more. In all cases, the brand requires its ambassadors to wear the watch while competing – a testament to the timepiece’s robustness. Bubba Watson wears his watch during the race, the RM 38-01 Tourbillon Bubba Watson. It contains a patented g-sensor that takes into account and compensates for these powerful wobbles. The latest version has a case in green high-tech ceramic, a white middle case and a white strap in grade 5 titanium with a protective white rubber case.
Omega
The Swiss brand also has strong ties to the golf world that began 20 years ago in 2011, when Omega was positioned as the official timekeeper of the PGA of America. Today, the brand sponsors or hosts a range of events, including the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Omega European Masters and more. In addition, the brand has created an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf Watch inspired by the championship.
Hublot
Hublot makes a mechanical golf watch called the Big Bang Unico Golf, which calculates scores on the course and more.
In defining the function of the timepiece, the brand collaborated with its golf brand ambassadors. Those golfers included Dustin Johnson, sometimes referred to as DJ, and leading Ryder Cup scorer Patrick Creed. Sometimes called Captain America for his patriotism, Reed is the fifth player to win three PGA Tour titles before turning 24. Other friends of the brand include Alexander Levi and Joel Gilbach.
Tag Heuer
It should also be noted that just recently TAG Heuer launched the Connected Golf watch, which tracks many aspects of the game, including distance to the green, hazards, shot distance, and even an interactive 3D map of the course, to name a few.
One of the most exciting new features of this watch is the innovative club recommendation tool. As you move your target around the map, the app recommends the right club for you based on distance. You can set the distance for each club first, and the watch will take your recorded shots into account to make better recommendations. These recommendations are available through TAG Heuer’s golf app, which is free even if you don’t buy a watch. Tommy Fleetwood recently joined the team of TAG Heuer ambassadors and will be wearing their newly updated Connected Golf Edition.
Of course, other replica watches review brands have some Golf affiliations, but these are the ones that stand out the most.
