Jacob & Co. Epic X
Jacobs & Co. presents the latest generation of its popular Epic X-Series.
Launched in 2015, the original Epic X collection was instrumental in making Jacob & Co. a full-fledged watchmaking brand. Unveiled during Geneva Watch Days 2022, the redesigned Epic X is even more sleek and streamlined. Jacob & Co. has subtly altered shapes, surfaces, lines to make the Epic X completely up-to-date, and details abound.
The first collection of the new Epic X showcases its bold 44mm stainless steel case, new 5-link stainless steel bracelet, X-shaped lugs and vertically aligned skeleton movement and bridges decorated with studs of Paris. A full rose gold version is also being released. They showed off a new set of crown guards, a new lug design and introduced green, blue or black aluminium parts that would open up endless possibilities.
The case is 44mm in diameter and 13.05mm thick. The bracelet has a new design, derived from the unique angles and curves of the case. Each of the 5 link rows is a polished and chamfered three-dimensional sculpture with a half-octagonal profile and curved base. This and careful study of the joints create an ideal fit on the wrist. Additionally, the Epic X can still use its signature honeycomb rubber strap.
Jacob & Co. fake has released three new versions of the Epic X: steel case with blue aluminum parts on steel bracelet or black rubber strap, rose gold case with rose gold bracelet or black rubber strap with Green aluminum parts, and black DLC case with black details on a rubber strap.
At launch, the Epic X was also a uniquely designed piece. The X graphic that gives the collection its name sits on its paired lugs. They are connected to each other by vertical bridges of skeletal movement, forming a continuous shape throughout the work.
All these unique characteristics have been retained and enhanced in the new series. The most obvious update to the design is the new shape of the case. The once stepped bezel is now smooth and polished, with a steeper angle. The X-shaped lugs are now full and flush, and start slightly above the sapphire crystal. The second most obvious change is the case strap, which extends beyond the case circle to form a set of crown guards. Between them, the redesigned crown showcases a two-layer notched steel tip.
The new Epic X features multiple colorful components made of aluminum. Currently, Jacob & Co. is offering the watch in blue, green and black themes. Depending on the version, any of these colors will be applied to the flange, which also comes with a redesigned font. The same tone appears on the satin-finished edges of the two vertical bridges, the body of the X.
Powering the Epic X watch is the Jacob & Co. Skeleton Calibre JCAM45, which has a wide barrel at 12 o’clock and a balance wheel at 6 o’clock.
The vertical bridge with the brand logo moves at 12 o’clock. These structures are openworked and decorated with a Clou de Paris (or Paris hobnail) guilloche pattern, made of square-base pyramids and polished surfaces.
The 5.9mm-thick movement is extremely skeletonized, a feature that is concealed by fully vertical bridges. It features a high-end balance wheel with adjustment screws that is almost flush with the dial.
The rest of the black finish on the skeleton motherboard is perlage (round grained), sandblasted and vertical grained.
A look at the back of the movement reveals the unique “octopus” spring, a delicate component with three extremely thin and elegantly curved blades. It acts as a detent spring and set lever spring.
