Patek Philippe Ref. 5236P-001 Inline Perpetual Calendar

As Philip Barat, Head of Watch Development at fake Patek Philippe, puts it.

“We’ve been talking about this famous 1972 pocket watch (Ref. 725/4) from the Patek Philippe Museum, which has three discs in one aperture. It shows the month, date and day of the week.

The one on the reference number. However, 5236 is configured in European notation – first the day of the week, then the day, then the month. When the project redeveloped this mechanism, we couldn’t base it on the idea of a pocket watch with a single large date disc because the display would be too small in the watch.

But we’ve been thinking about a single-line perpetual calendar. About five or six years ago, Thierry Stern and the product developers met in the movement workshop and told us that it would be good to solve this problem, because the customer wanted a more unique type of perpetual calendar. After all, he said, we have this famous museum Best high quality watch, so can’t we create something similar?

So we got together and thought about whether we could make the perpetual calendar more readable by using two discs to display the date, one for the units and the other for the tens. We then developed the concept of using double ball bearings and patented the idea. With it, we can actually place four pucks on a single plane – a coplanar arrangement behind a single aperture, for a new and unique display.

At the same time, we had to find a solution to make the perpetual calendar as thin as possible. At Patek Philippe, reliability, thinness and beauty are key. The venture was a success thanks to modern techniques and tools, especially a lathe capable of milling, allowing the pinion to be formed in one piece. Typically, pinions are made in three parts and require several assembly steps. They are larger than what we can form in one piece with an automatic lathe. perfect men watch

There is also an intermediate unit wheel, which has two superimposed wheel planes, which are spring-loaded apart. This is a block mechanism. It works like a component in a minute repeater that suppresses the chime that strikes the chime. Here, it ensures that the disc does not jump teeth in either direction in the event of a shock or a quick date adjustment.

To assemble the movement, we used a work dial with display holes to verify that the information was displayed and centered correctly. This way we can also see if the adjustment system and the puck are properly aligned. This is just one of 80 different tools we use during assembly. To produce the parts, we need to make about 600 different engraving tools, from knives to chamfering tools.

As you can see, museums are our source of inspiration. The fragments inside bear witness to many historical developments. And we’re not just viewing them from a showcase. We picked out (the perpetual calendar pocket Wholesale watch) and opened it up for disassembly. and trying to understand how it’s made. “
